Our Cruises and Tips for Cunard Cruises
We have had the opportunity to cruise on two of the four Cunard ships: Queen Mary 2 and Queen Anne. Our experience on Queen Mary 2 took us back to a more traditional style of cruising, characterized by elegant wood paneling, classic afternoon teas, and a grand ballroom where passengers danced to the live house band. We were initially concerned about the formal dress code but found it manageable and fitting for the sophisticated ambiance of the ship.
Fast forward to May 2024, when we had the chance to sail on Queen Anne’s maiden voyage. We were thrilled to return to Cunard and were greeted by a ship that diverged from Cunard’s traditional style. The grand wood paneling and old-world charm were replaced with a more modern aesthetic, though the ship retained subtle nods to Cunard’s classic elegance. Despite some unexpected issues such as delays, cold food, and service falling short of expectations for a maiden voyage, we thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard. The blend of modern design with Cunard’s signature touches made for a memorable experience, highlighting both the evolution and enduring appeal of the cruise line.
Our tip for Cunard is to ensure that you dress comfortably, our idea of a cruise onboard Cunard was to dressed to the 9’s all the time, but that is not the case during the day dress in smart casual attire and most nights in the main dining restaurant was jackets for men and dresses for woman except for formal / gala nights where you dressed in your best. If you don’t feel comfortable getting really dressed up you can always dine in the buffet.
